- 13:05-14:05 “WLM turns 25! A Retrospective and Lessons Learned”, by Peter Enrico (“Enterprise Performance Strategies”)
- This year marks the 25th anniversary of the announcement and availability of WLM. Let’s celebrate with a retrospective of why this feature of MVS was a game changer in the world of computer performance management. What were the motivating factors, evolution of WLM, and lessons learned? This presentation will be given by Peter Enrico, who was an original member of the WLM algorithms design anddevelopment team. The more senior attendees will listen nostalgically. Newer performance professionals will gain insights to the evolution and maturity of WLM. This is going to be a great 25-year review and will be full of insights.
- 14:05 -14:50 “PDSE Version 2 Member Generations”, by Nick Jones
- z/OS 2.1 saw the introduction of PDSE version 2 libraries with support for member generations. This session will cover the PDSE Member Generation basics including PDSE V2 allocation, generation numbering and ISPF support. Native ISPF supports edit and browse, but what about other practical user applications? e.g. How do I…– Recover a member from one of its generations?– Display a list of older generations of one or more members?– View their contents – browse or edit?– Compare one version with another, to see what’s changed?– Copy, Delete or Search members and their generations?– Allocate PDSE v2 libraries with MAXGENS?– Identify and delete orphaned member generations?
- 14:40-15:35 “ZIGI – OpenSource Development for z/OS”, by Henri Kuiper
- Zigi is an Open Source developed tool for Open Source Development in z/OS. The best source code management system since the rubberband! In this talk Henri will explain the journey (pros and cons) of building an open source tool, and will demo the current (2.0) version of zigi. Some REXX ISPF development tips&tricks and git 101 might be presented to…At the end of the session, the audience should have a basic understanding of git, about how zigi will make life easier for us “old-skool ISPF Users” and maybe pick up a trick or two when it comes to REXX/ISPF programming.
