Who We Are
WAVEZ is a vibrant, community-driven user group dedicated to fostering a new generation of mainframers. As the mainframe industry faces a transition—with many experienced professionals retiring—WAVEZ steps in to address the critical need for fresh talent by equipping newcomers and early-career professionals with the skills, resources, and connections they need to thrive.
We provide educational programming, career-building workshops, and networking events designed to nurture the next wave of mainframers and ensure they’re prepared to lead the industry forward. From foundational learning in IBM Z to industry insights and peer networking, WAVEZ is committed to delivering an enriching experience that supports aspiring mainframers at every stage of their journey.

Our mission is to secure the future of mainframe technology by cultivating new talent and creating pathways for success. Through our partnerships with universities, industry events, and direct engagement with students and young professionals, WAVEZ opens the door to a world of career opportunities in mainframe and works to empower individuals to confidently navigate and grow within this specialized field.

What We Offer
To meet the diverse needs of early-career mainframers, WAVEZ provides educational programming through two learning streams: WAVEZ 101 and WAVEZ 102, each designed to support different levels of experience and career goals.
WAVEZ 101: Building Mainframe Foundations
Our WAVEZ 101 stream offers an accessible introduction for newcomers to mainframe technology. These sessions focus on key concepts, basic skills, and practical, hands-on learning designed to set a strong foundation. Through beginner-friendly workshops and interactive content, participants gain essential knowledge and become familiar with the broad landscape of IBM Z. The objectives of WAVEZ 101 are to offer a comprehensive introduction to the mainframe ecosystem, encourage collaboration with peers, and make technical content engaging and easy to digest.
WAVEZ 102: Advancing Your IBM Z Expertise
For members ready to take the next step, WAVEZ 102 provides more advanced content and deeper insights into IBM Z technology. Participants in this stream typically have a foundational understanding and are eager to explore specialized areas within the mainframe world. WAVEZ 102 includes intermediate sessions on complex topics, specialized areas of mainframe technology, and opportunities to dive deeper into the intricacies of IBM Z. Our goal is to help members find their niche, explore diverse IBM Z topics, and prepare for more advanced roles in mainframe.
Networking and Community Building
WAVEZ emphasizes the importance of community and professional relationships. We host career-focused sessions, speed networking, and social events where members can meet peers, learn from seasoned professionals, and expand their professional circles. These gatherings provide an essential foundation for career growth, helping members build lasting connections with peers and mentors, share industry knowledge, and gain insight into the different career paths available in mainframe technology.
Our community members are typically within the first seven years of their mainframe careers. By the time they transition out of WAVEZ, they are equipped with the skills, confidence, and connections needed to excel in the field independently.
